Special Advocate Volunteers

Macon County has over 500 children in the court system who could benefit from a Special Advocate.  Macon County CASA has an ongoing need for Advocate volunteers.

As a child advocate, the CASA volunteer has three main responsibilities:

  1. Serving as a fact-finder for the judge by thoroughly researching the background of each assigned case.
  2. Speaking for the child in the courtroom; representing the child’s best interests.
  3. Acting as a “watchdog” for the child during the life of the case ensuring that it is brought to a swift and appropriate conclusion.

Qualifications to become a CASA:

  • A desire to help children
  • A minimum of 21 years of age
  • Pass a routine background check
  • Provide four (4) references
  • Give 15-20 hours per month of time
  • No legal or social work background is needed
  • Complete 30 hours of training provided by the local CASA office
