Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School

Who We Are

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is a state-recognized and accredited Preschool - 8th grade faith-based educational community located on the north side of Decatur.  Our mission, "to develop strong values in our students and educate them spiritually, intellectually, culturally, and physically" is lived out by educating our children for life.

The home of the Lancers welcomed its first students in the fall of 1960, and for over 50 years Our Lady of Lourdes has provided a challenging academic curriculum enhanced by a Catholic Christian approach to education.  A faculty of 17 state-certified professional educators, nearly 50 % of whom hold a Master's degree, suppoorted by 8 additional staff combine rigorous academic standards with an understanding of the special needs of a diverse community of learners to provide a consistently excellent educational experience.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School admits students of any race, color, sex, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.  Families of all faiths are welcome in our school realizing that religion classes are a part of our daily curriculum as is attendance at the Friday All School Mass.

What We Do

In order to Educate our Children for Life, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School integrates several elements of excellence:

FAITH:  Through education, the Church seeks to prepare its member to proclaim the Good News and to translate this proclamation into action.  Our Lady of Lourdes students are challenged to hear that call and to live it out each day in their classrooms, on the playground, and in the community.

ACADEMICS:  Academic rigor and preparing children to face the challenges of an ever-changing future drives the educational process at OLOL.  Teachers work daily with the diverse needs of learners.  New iPads for our Jr. High students support an on-line science curriculum as teachers at all grade levels use Promethean Board technology to engage students and expand their horizons.  Class Projects like the video below are possible due to the infusion of technology into the curriculum.

Those learners consistently score at or above the national average on the Terra Nova/In View standardized test which the Diocese of Springfield has selected for our students.  Our graduates pursue college preparatory high school tracks, often at St. Teresa High School,  and have matriculated to many outstanding universities including Notre Dame, St. Louis University, The University of Illinois, Butler University, Loyala University, Illinois Weslyn, Creighton, and Millikin University to name just a few.

SERVICE:  A long-standing association with the Good Samaritan Inn and the WSOY Food Drive fuels OLOL students determination to be of service to the local community and beyond.  As Jr. High students 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have the opportunity to join Student Council which is totally devoted to leading and performing acts of service.  In addition to our 8th graders serving each year at the Good Samaritan Inn and our whole school working with OLOL parish on the Food Drive, Student Council members lead in other charitable endeavors such as blanket making, providing food and toys at the holidays, and any other needs they find, using the prize money from the Food Drive along with other fundraisers to support their good works.

CO-CURRICULARS/EXTRACURRICULARS:  Supporting the curriculum, we have services in Title I reading, Learning Disability/Resource, Speech Therapy, and Counseling.

Instrumental Music, Drama, Art Classes, an up-to-date School Library, Scholastic Bowl, Student Council along with Athletic Teams including Cross Country, Boys' and Girls' Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Track give students many choices in developing their talents and interests.
